VINTAGE U.S. BEER BOTTLE – “NOT TO BE REFILLED”
I found this bottle in Northern Italy, while working through an old waste pit connected to a former U.S. Army site.
Places like this are never clean. You dig slowly and carefully. Most of what you see is broken, but sometimes something comes out almost untouched.
This is one of those pieces.
A brown glass beer bottle with the marking "Not To Be Refilled".
At the bottom, there are additional markings: 8565-1, 46, 31.
The number 46 most likely refers to the year 1946, which would place this bottle right after World War II, during the period when American forces were still present in parts of Europe. Exact dating can vary, but this fits the context of the location.
Bottles marked "Not To Be Refilled" were produced for single use. This became more common in the mid 20th century, especially for mass distribution.
This is an original field find. It comes directly from a real location, not from a collection or resale market.
I don't find many pieces like this in this condition.
