MORETTI RICHARD A – U.S. ARMY DOG TAG

I found this dog tag in Vietnam, in a place connected to a strong American military presence during the war.

The Vietnam War brought together soldiers from across the United States, many of them far from home for the first time. Objects like this are one of the few direct links that remain.

This tag carries the name Moretti Richard A.

U.S. Army. Blood type O positive. Catholic.

Blood type was critical information for field medics. Religious preference was included so that, if needed, the soldier could receive the correct rites.

Dog tags were part of standard military equipment and were worn at all times. They were meant to identify the soldier in any situation.

Finding one like this outside of its original context always makes you pause.

This is an authentic piece. It is not a reproduction.
