MATHIS MARVIN – U.S. ARMY DOG TAG
I found this dog tag in Vietnam, in an area that once had a strong American military presence.
The Vietnam War still feels close when you are there. Objects like this continue to appear, often in unexpected places.
This tag carries the name Mathis Marvin.
U.S. Army. Blood type O. Baptist.
Based on the marking, it likely means he was drafted into service, not a career soldier.
That changes the perspective. It was someone who may not have planned to be there, but still became part of that moment in history.
Dog tags were worn for identification and were meant to stay with the soldier at all times. Finding one like this raises questions you will never fully answer.
