Metal Detecting in Sweden
In Sweden, private recreational metal detecting generally requires a permit from the County Administrative Board, even when you are not planning to search for archaeological objects. Permits are issued for a defined area rather than as a nationwide detecting pass, and the official guidance states that they are not issued for areas adjacent to ancient monuments or finds. There is also an application fee, payable regardless of whether permission is granted. Apply well before your trip and ask the relevant county board how a foreign visitor should submit the application. Check land access separately and follow the exact conditions of any permit you receive.
Detector Lady recommends: Before travelling with your metal detector, always check the country’s current rules and the conditions for the exact place you want to search.
