Metal Detecting in Serbia

Serbia’s Ministry of Culture states that archaeological excavations and investigations may be carried out only by scientific institutions or heritage protection institutions with the ministry’s approval. The institution must have a research project, qualified staff, equipment and the necessary funding. This is not a general permit for private hobby detectorists, and permission from a landowner does not replace it. I could not confirm a clear national authorisation for visitors searching exclusively for modern losses. Before planning a detecting trip, contact the Ministry of Culture or the responsible local heritage institution and describe the exact location and activity. Do not assume that an unknown archaeological site is available for private searching.
