Metal Detecting in Romania

Romania has rules for the detector itself, not just for the place where you want to search. The official system requires police authorisation for possessing a metal detector. That authorisation does not give permission to use it in archaeological areas, where separate heritage approval is required. As the published possession procedure is linked to the applicant’s residence, foreign visitors should ask the Romanian Police how the requirements apply before bringing their equipment. Do not assume that a permit from your home country or permission from a landowner is sufficient. Confirm the equipment paperwork, search location and treatment of finds before your trip.

Detector Lady recommends: Before travelling with your metal detector, always check the country’s current rules and the conditions for the exact place you want to search.
