Metal Detecting in Poland

As of 29 October 2026, searching for hidden or abandoned historical objects with a detector still requires permission from the relevant provincial heritage conservator. Landowner consent is also necessary. The Ministry of Culture distinguishes this from searching for modern coins or recently lost jewellery that are not historical objects, which does not require that particular heritage permit. However, land access, local restrictions and lost property obligations still apply. The legislative change introducing a different system was postponed to 1 January 2027, so do not rely on articles describing it as already operational. Confirm the rules for your actual travel dates before arranging a search.

Detector Lady recommends: Before travelling with your metal detector, always check the country’s current rules and the conditions for the exact place you want to search.
