Metal Detecting in Oman

Oman’s Cultural Heritage Law requires official licensing for archaeological surveying and excavation. Permission from a landowner does not replace that approval. There is also an important point for detectorists interested in meteorites: the 2026 amendments require prior approval to search for or possess meteorites. Those amendments also require discoveries of antiquities or evidence of cultural heritage to be reported to the competent authority within 48 hours. I could not confirm a general tourist permission for modern beach detecting. Before taking your detector, ask the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism about your exact purpose and location, and clarify equipment entry conditions separately.

Detector Lady recommends: Before travelling with your metal detector, always check the country’s current rules and the conditions for the exact place you want to search.
