Metal Detecting in North Macedonia

North Macedonia has a specific approval procedure for detection equipment used in archaeological research. The official government services portal states that metal detectors and similar devices suitable for locating archaeological sites or objects may be used during archaeological investigations only when the equipment owner has the required approval from the Cultural Heritage Protection Office, following the ministry’s consent. This is not a general tourist detecting permit. I could not confirm a separate national authorisation for searches limited to modern losses. Before travelling, ask the office about your intended activity and location, and check equipment entry requirements separately with customs.
