Metal Detecting in Montenegro

Montenegro’s official heritage authority issues permits for archaeological investigations and determines the status of accidental discoveries. Archaeological research is therefore not something a visitor can authorise simply by obtaining permission from a property owner. The published legal framework requires professional qualifications and approval for archaeological investigations. I could not confirm a general national permission for recreational detecting aimed exclusively at modern beach losses. Before planning a search, ask the Administration for the Protection of Cultural Property and the responsible beach or land manager about the exact location, detector use and digging. Public access to a beach does not settle those questions.
