Metal Detecting in the Maldives

The Maldives Heritage Act requires prior written permission from the National Centre for Cultural Heritage for searching for cultural heritage at a place where it is believed to exist, investigating it or removing it. That is a heritage protection requirement, not proof that every search for a recently lost ring is prohibited or permitted. I could not confirm a general national authorisation for tourist beach detecting. Before packing your detector, check equipment entry requirements with Maldives Customs and obtain clear guidance from the relevant island or resort management. Their approval does not replace any heritage or environmental permission that may also be needed.

Detector Lady recommends: Before travelling with your metal detector, always check the country’s current rules and the conditions for the exact place you want to search.
