Metal Detecting in Luxembourg
Luxembourg has an official route for detector surveys aimed at archaeological heritage, but it is a scientific framework rather than a general hobby permit. Ministerial authorisation requires recognised basic training, a scientific purpose and close cooperation with the National Institute for Archaeological Research, known as INRA. The application must identify the search area and dates and include signed permission from the landowners. A final survey report is also required. If your plans concern a recently lost item instead of archaeological research, ask INRA how the rules apply to that particular search. Do not assume that landowner permission alone allows historical detecting.
Detector Lady recommends: Before travelling with your metal detector, always check the country’s current rules and the conditions for the exact place you want to search.
