Metal Detecting in Lithuania
Lithuania does not prohibit buying or using metal detectors in general, but the purpose of the search is crucial. The Department of Cultural Heritage explains that searching for legally defined cultural objects with detectors is reserved to appropriately certified researchers. This restriction is not limited to registered archaeological sites. Protected heritage places and their protection zones have additional rules, and the definition of cultural objects includes more than ancient artefacts, with certain coins, medals and historical objects also covered. If you only want to search for modern losses, confirm that your plans fall outside those restrictions and check land access before starting.
Detector Lady recommends: Before travelling with your metal detector, always check the country’s current rules and the conditions for the exact place you want to search.
