Metal Detecting in Liechtenstein

Liechtenstein’s Office of Cultural Affairs gives a clear answer about searching for archaeological finds: using technical equipment to search for archaeological objects and sites is not allowed, although permission may be granted in certain exceptional cases. This means that a field, forest or landowner’s invitation does not automatically provide an opportunity for historical detecting. The official guidance concerns archaeological searches and should not be stretched into a claim that every use of a detector is prohibited. If you want to recover a recently lost object, ask the Office of Cultural Affairs and the land manager about that specific situation before searching.

Detector Lady recommends: Before travelling with your metal detector, always check the country’s current rules and the conditions for the exact place you want to search.
