Metal Detecting in Kyrgyzstan
Kyrgyzstan requires a special archaeological authorisation, known as an open sheet, for archaeological surveys, excavations and other archaeological investigations, including underwater work. Official government guidance also states that using metal detectors and similar equipment to search for historical and cultural heritage without that authorisation is prohibited. This should not be confused with a general licence for recreational detecting. I could not confirm a clear tourist procedure for searches limited to modern lost objects. Before planning a detecting trip, contact the responsible heritage authority and clarify the exact activity, location and permissions. Landowner consent does not replace the archaeological authorisation.
Detector Lady recommends: Before travelling with your metal detector, always check the country’s current rules and the conditions for the exact place you want to search.
