Metal Detecting in Kosovo

Kosovo’s Cultural Heritage Law requires written permission for archaeological excavations, together with licensing based on professional standards and supervision. It also establishes that archaeological heritage discovered within Kosovo belongs to Kosovo. Permission from a landowner therefore does not give you the right to dig for historical objects and take them home. I could not confirm a separate national authorisation for ordinary hobby detecting aimed only at modern losses. Before searching, contact the Archaeological Institute of Kosovo or the responsible Ministry of Culture service and explain your intended location and purpose. Do not treat unknown archaeological sites as unprotected ground.

Detector Lady recommends: Before travelling with your metal detector, always check the country’s current rules and the conditions for the exact place you want to search.
