Metal Detecting in Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan’s heritage legislation specifically addresses metal detectors used during archaeological work. Article 34 states that archaeological work requires a licence and restricts the use of specialised search equipment for that work to licensed individuals or organisations. This is not a general hobby permit that a visitor can replace with permission from a farmer. I could not verify a clear national procedure for tourists searching exclusively for modern lost objects. Before bringing your detector, ask the responsible heritage authority about the proposed activity and location. Avoid assuming that an unregistered historical site is available for private searching.

Detector Lady recommends: Before travelling with your metal detector, always check the country’s current rules and the conditions for the exact place you want to search.
