Metal Detecting in Israel
In Israel, searching for antiquities with a metal detector requires a licence under the Antiquities Law. This applies to searching, not just digging, so staying on the surface does not remove the requirement. The law also treats having a detector at an antiquities site as possible evidence of an intention to search for antiquities. Searching for recently lost jewellery is a separate question, but I could not confirm a general permission covering every beach. Before planning a search, check the location with the Israel Antiquities Authority and the responsible land or beach manager. A landowner’s invitation does not replace an archaeological licence.
Detector Lady recommends: Before travelling with your metal detector, always check the country’s current rules and the conditions for the exact place you want to search.
