Metal Detecting in Hungary

Hungary requires more preparation than simply obtaining a farmer’s permission. Under the current wording of Section 52 of Government Decree 68/2018, nonprofessional detector use must be notified to the heritage authority, with the purpose, mapped search area and intended dates. The paperwork must include consent from the person entitled to authorise use of the property and an agreement with an institution authorised to conduct archaeological fieldwork. The authority can prohibit the activity, and additional notification is required three working days before the actual search. Arrange everything through the responsible authority and institution before making detecting plans.

Detector Lady recommends: Before travelling with your metal detector, always check the country’s current rules and the conditions for the exact place you want to search.
