Metal Detecting in Honduras
Honduras protects its archaeological heritage through the Law for the Protection of the Cultural Heritage of the Nation. The Honduran Institute of Anthropology and History, known as IHAH, is responsible for authorising relevant archaeological excavations and interventions. The law also addresses unauthorised treasure extraction at archaeological places, including previously unknown sites. Permission from a property owner is therefore not enough for searching and digging for archaeological objects. I could not verify a general national authorisation for tourist beach detecting. If your plans involve modern losses rather than historical finds, ask IHAH and the responsible local authority to clarify the conditions first.
Detector Lady recommends: Before travelling with your metal detector, always check the country’s current rules and the conditions for the exact place you want to search.
