Metal Detecting in Greece
Greece has a specific system for metal detectors, and registering a device is not the same as receiving permission to use it. The official rules provide for registration and a separate use permit covering an approved location and conditions. The application goes through the relevant archaeological service, and written landowner consent is required where private property is involved. A beach should not be treated as an automatic exception. Before travelling, contact the Ministry of Culture’s responsible service and confirm the paperwork required for your equipment and proposed search area. Get that answer before switching the detector on.
Detector Lady recommends: Before travelling with your metal detector, always check the country’s current rules and the conditions for the exact place you want to search.
