Metal Detecting in Germany

Germany does not have one detecting rule that works for every destination. Heritage protection is handled by the individual federal states, and their requirements differ. In the Rhineland, the LVR heritage authority describes a permission process involving consultation and approval of the proposed search areas. Baden Württemberg takes a much more restrictive approach to private searches for archaeological objects. Before planning a trip, contact the heritage authority responsible for the exact state and district you want to visit. Landowner permission is a separate requirement and does not replace any necessary heritage authorisation.

Detector Lady recommends: Before travelling with your metal detector, always check the country’s current rules and the conditions for the exact place you want to search.
