Metal Detecting in Georgia
Georgia’s cultural heritage law regulates archaeological work, including archaeological excavations, through a permit system. A landowner’s invitation is therefore not enough if your plans involve searching for and excavating archaeological remains. The official permit information directs applicants to the National Agency for Cultural Heritage Preservation of Georgia. I could not confirm a clear national procedure for visiting hobby detectorists searching only for modern losses. Before taking your detector, describe your intended activity and location to the agency and request written guidance. An absence of an obvious hobby detecting rule should never be treated as permission to recover historical objects.
Detector Lady recommends: Before travelling with your metal detector, always check the country’s current rules and the conditions for the exact place you want to search.
