Metal Detecting in Estonia

Metal detecting in Estonia comes with a clear permit system. The National Heritage Board requires a search device permit for searching in water and on land outside clearly defined, densely settled areas and private yard areas. That includes many places detectorists would naturally consider, such as fields, forests and beaches. You also need the landowner’s permission. Searching on protected monuments, in their protection zones and at archaeological find sites is restricted to authorised activities. Permit holders must notify the board before a search and submit a report within 30 days afterwards. This is a trip to organise before you arrive.

Detector Lady recommends: Before travelling with your metal detector, always check the country’s current rules and the conditions for the exact place you want to search.
