Metal Detecting in Egypt

Egypt is a country where I would be very careful about planning a detecting trip. Searching for antiquities and carrying out archaeological excavations are regulated under the Antiquities Protection Law, with archaeological work subject to official authorisation. Permission from a landowner or a hotel does not replace that authorisation. I could not verify a general tourist exemption for recreational beach detecting, so I would not assume that searching a resort beach is automatically allowed. Before packing your detector, obtain written confirmation about both bringing the equipment into Egypt and using it at your intended location.

Detector Lady recommends: Before travelling with your metal detector, always check the country’s current rules and the conditions for the exact place you want to search.
