Metal Detecting in Ecuador
Ecuador’s Organic Law on Culture requires authorisation from the National Institute of Cultural Heritage for archaeological surveys and excavations. Archaeological material and underwater cultural heritage fall under state ownership, and chance archaeological discoveries must be reported and handed over through the appropriate authority. I could not confirm a general national permission for hobby detecting limited to modern lost objects. Before searching, ask about the exact location and purpose, and check any protected area rules separately. Landowner permission alone does not authorise an archaeological search.
Detector Lady recommends: Before travelling with your metal detector, always check the country’s current rules and the conditions for the exact place you want to search.
