Metal Detecting in the Dominican Republic
The Dominican Republic’s published cultural heritage law prohibits excavation for archaeological objects without the appropriate authorisation. It provides a route for authorised archaeological research by qualified people and institutions, rather than a general holiday detecting permit. Discoveries considered part of the national cultural heritage must also be declared. I could not verify a clear nationwide permission for recreational searches limited to modern lost items on beaches. Before searching, confirm the conditions with the relevant authorities and whoever manages the exact beach or property.
Detector Lady recommends: Before travelling with your metal detector, always check the country’s current rules and the conditions for the exact place you want to search.
