Metal Detecting in Croatia
Croatia’s cultural heritage law explicitly restricts using metal detectors to locate archaeological sites or individual archaeological finds, including underwater discoveries. Such use is allowed within archaeological research authorised by the ministry responsible for culture, rather than through a general hobby permission. The law also protects recorded and suspected archaeological areas, so avoiding a visibly marked monument is not enough. I could not confirm a blanket national permission for searching only for modern lost items. Ask about the exact beach or property and your intended search before starting.
Detector Lady recommends: Before travelling with your metal detector, always check the country’s current rules and the conditions for the exact place you want to search.
