Metal Detecting in Chile
In Chile, archaeological excavation and surveys involving intervention in archaeological heritage require prior authorisation from the National Monuments Council, including on private land. Its guidance identifies surface collection and test pits as examples of intervention, so recovering a historical detector target should not be treated as an ordinary beach activity. The Council distinguishes these activities from surveys without intervention. I could not confirm a general permission covering every recreational search for modern lost items, so check the exact location and recovery method before searching.
Detector Lady recommends: Before travelling with your metal detector, always check the country’s current rules and the conditions for the exact place you want to search.
