Metal Detecting in Cabo Verde
Cabo Verde’s heritage law treats archaeological work as including systematic surface exploration, so searching without digging is not automatically outside its scope. Archaeological work at protected sites, their protection zones and other properties of archaeological interest requires prior authorisation. Archaeological discoveries must be reported immediately to the local authority. I could not confirm a general permission for recreational beach detecting for modern lost items, so I would check the specific beach and planned activity with the Cultural Heritage Institute before searching.
Detector Lady recommends: Before travelling with your metal detector, always check the country’s current rules and the conditions for the exact place you want to search.
