Metal Detecting in Burundi

The heritage law available through UNESCO requires permission from the Minister of Culture before excavating or carrying out test digging to search for historical or archaeological objects, including on your own land. It also requires archaeological discoveries to be reported. I could not verify a current general rule specifically covering ordinary recreational metal detecting, or confirm that the published 1983 law includes every subsequent change. I would obtain current guidance from the cultural authorities before planning a search.

Detector Lady recommends: Before travelling with your metal detector, always check the country’s current rules and the conditions for the exact place you want to search.
