Metal Detecting in Brunei

In Brunei, excavating to discover antiquities requires a licence under the Antiquities and Treasure Trove Act, even on land you own or occupy. Digging at or immediately around a scheduled ancient monument or historical site has additional permission requirements. I could not confirm a general national permission for hobby detecting or searching for modern lost objects on beaches. Before taking your detector out, ask the Museums Department about the planned search and remember that antiquities and treasure discoveries have their own reporting rules.
