Metal Detecting in Belize

I could not verify a general nationwide permission for recreational metal detecting in Belize. Archaeological research follows a permit process managed by the Institute of Archaeology, and this is not an ordinary hobby permit. At archaeological reserves, the visitor rules prohibit excavation, interference with monuments and removing material such as earth, stone or pottery. A beach visit or a landowner’s agreement should not be treated as permission to search for archaeological objects. Ask the Institute about your plans before searching.

Detector Lady recommends: Before travelling with your metal detector, always check the country’s current rules and the conditions for the exact place you want to search.
