Metal Detecting in Austria
In Austria, searching for archaeological remains with a metal detector requires permission from the Federal Monuments Authority. Its official guidance also states that using a detector on land protected under heritage law without its permission is generally an offence. Landowner consent does not replace archaeological authorisation. This should not be read as a blanket ban on every search for a modern lost object, but I would confirm the purpose and location with the authority before planning a detecting trip.
Detector Lady recommends: Before travelling with your metal detector, always check the country’s current rules and the conditions for the exact place you want to search.
